ABOUT THE PIECE:
Exploiting nature and the environment will have devastating consequences for humanity in the long run. If people and nature work together we can persevere for future generations. In the battle to limit the risks of climate change, focusing on the world’s immense tropical forests — saving the ones that are left, and perhaps letting new ones grow — is the single most promising near-term strategy. Explore the beauty of the rain forest in this “Environmentally Conscious” show.
Visual ideas may include trees or leaves painted on the floor, backdrops, as props, and/or incorporated into your uniforms. Areas of desert or wasteland to represent clear-cutting, toxic waste, pollution, encroachment of “civilization” into the forest, etc.
“Tomorrow’s Wasteland” was conceived by Lucas Melville and commissioned by Mr. Jeffrey Edom for the Laguna Creek High School (Elk Grove, CA) Winter Percussion group for the Winter 2016 season.
