ABOUT THE PIECE:

A Metamorphosis is an abrupt or major change in the appearance or character of someone or something.  This show allows you the opportunity to explore a number of themes dealing with change.  The style of the music is very much minimal in nature, the first two movements conceived originally as a “sequel” to A New Way to Ride, which is an homage to the music of Steve Reich.  As the title suggests, the feel of the show morphs abruptly into “something” different, in this case a much quicker, darker, and dissonant 3rd movement to conclude the show.

Commissioned by Mr. Kevin Cato for Mt. Eden High School in the Winter of 2013.
