Difficulty: HARD (Grade 5)
ABOUT THE PIECE:
Les Preludes (Symphonic Poem #3)
Written by Franz Liszt, Les Preludes is the 3rd of Liszt’s 13 symphonic poems, and the first to be published. The music is based partly on Liszt’s choral cycle “Les quatre elemens” (The Four Elements) and is presented in 5 sections in it’s original form, 3 of which are explored in this arrangement; Question, Storm, and Victory.
Musical challenges abound in this arrangement. There are some technically challenging 4 mallet marimba parts, several phrases containing difficult extended arpeggio passages, and demanding listening/communicating required throughout. This piece is good for the high intermediate to advanced ensemble. Great for Indoor Percussion (Concert Divisions) as well as Chamber Music for your percussion section to use in concerts or solo/ensemble festivals.
