ABOUT THE PIECE:

Tis’ the season for snowboarding, hot chocolate, and indoor percussion! Explore the winter wonderland with this 5-part piece for the young and developing ensemble.

The piece opens with a well-known Ukrainian folk tune, “Shchedryk”, which serves as a recurring motive throughout. Next, a favorite from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcraker Ballet, “Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy” is explored. The theme is developed and morphs into the original piece “Aurora Borealis”. Next we take on another of Tchaikovsky’s pieces from the Nutcraker Ballet, “Dance of the Reed-Flutes”. The show concludes with the original “First Snow”.
