ABOUT THE PIECE:

“He didn’t reinvent the wheel so much as he showed us a new way to ride.” – John Adams on Steve Reich. This piece is my tribute to Steve Reich and many other minimalist composers that I admire and respect. If you are in to minimalism, or even if you aren’t, give this piece a listen.

Thematically open, “A New Way to Ride” offers itself to limitless interpretations in terms of show concept.  A robot, computer, or even assembly line theme could easily by represented by the repetition of the minimalist style.  There is a lot of back and forth dialogue in the piece which could be perfect for night and day, black and white, yin and yang, or any other type of “opposites” show theme.  The options are limitless!

One of my personal favorites, this piece was commissioned by Mr. Kevin Cato for Mt. Eden High School (Hayward, CA).
